Jonathan Nimerfroh is the man behind these photos of frozen waves in Nantucket, Massachusetts. When he was on his daily surf check, he saw that the horizon look strange. He decided to go to the top of the dunes and the view was amazing. He saw that, beginning about 300 yards away from the shoreline, the ocean was starting to freeze. It was a record-setting cold winter, which turned the ocean waves into frozen waves. Since the waves were frozen, it wasn’t so good for surfing. It was 32 degrees Fahrenheit.
In the next day, he came again to the beach to see what had happen with the frozen waves. It turned out that the water had frozen solid and there were no waves at all. The fishermen and surfers said that this is a first and they had never seen it before. The waves became frozen because it was the coldest winter they’d had in 81 years.
The high of most frozen waves were around 2 until 3 feet.
