1. Bangkok


Bangkok is the biggest city in Thailand and known as the capital city of that country. Containing many ancient temples and amazing palaces, Bangkok always attracts tourist from around the world. As a big city, Bangkok has traffic jams and air pollution, but it also has the river that gives you another option for transportation to avoid traffic. You can visit Wat Pho, one of the famous temple in Bangkok. Near that temple is a famous palace, the Grand Palace. At night, try to go down the Chao Praya River by boat and visit Asiatique. You can shop for some things, eat dinner with river views, or visit the famous tourist street, Khaosan Street. Make sure to spend your weekend in Chatuchak Market.  It’s a very popular weekend market in Bangkok where you can buy almost everything with local price. You can also haggle. Take the map before you enter the market or you will get lost.

 

2. Ayutthaya


King U Thong founded Ayutthaya in 1350 and claimed this place as the capital of his kingdom. It’s located in the Chao Phraya River valley, 50 miles north of Bangkok. Around the 1700s, Ayutthaya had 1 million inhabitants and became the largest city in the world. Many merchants from all over the world sailed to this city to trade their goods. This place contains 3 palaces and a hundred temples. Outside the ruins, you can find some markets which sell foods. If you plan to visit the ruins of Ayutthaya, you can take a train, bus, boat or van from Bangkok.

 

3. Thailand Islands


Thailand is famous for its beautiful islands and beaches. They have a stunning view and blue water with their amazing underwater life. The largest and developed island is Phuket. There are two bridges which connect the mainland. Because of the beauty of the beaches, one of Leonardo DiCaprio’s movies, The Beach, was made with Maya Bay on Ko Phi Phi Lay as the film set. To reach those islands you can easily choose one of the tour services that provide many types of tour packages. They will take care of your transportation and accommodation during your trip.

 

4. Kanchanaburi


Kanchanaburi is famous for its bridge over the River Kwai. The bridge has a historical story and well known as “Death Railway” because many Asian laborers died during the construction. Kanchanaburi also offers some museums, national parks, and elephant camps. The museums kept the history from the World War II. You can also find war cemeteries for those who gave their life for the Death Railway to Burma (now, Myanmar). In elephant camps, you can interact directly with the elephants, rideing and also bathing them. Kanchanaburi is a perfect place for those of you who love both nature and history. You can use bus, minivan, train, car, or minibus to reach this place.

 

5. Khao Sok National Park


Talking about Southern Thailand, there is a national park called Khao Sok National Park located in Surat Thani province. The national park consists of vast jungle forest, limestone karsts, rivers, and lakes. You can stay overnight at the Jungle house and enjoy the natural atmosphere. Trekking through the jungle, enjoying the waterfalls, and observing flora and fauna with the tour guide are the several options that you can choose when you come to the national park. You will be amazed by the beautiful wildlife in the Khao Sok National Park.

 

6. Chiang Rai


Located in the northernmost reaches of Thailand, Chiang Rai is famous for its white templ,e called Wat Rong Khun. It is a Buddhist temple designed and constructed by a local artist from Chiang Rai, Chalermchai Kositpipat. There are also museums and a clock tower that you can visit during your vacation in Chiang Rai. If you plan to go this city from Bangkok, you can use the bus services. It may take from 9 to 11 hours. You can choose the air-conditioned bus or non-air-conditioned bus service. Unfortunately, there is no direct train to this cit,y but you can take a train to cities located near Chiang Rai. There are Lampang and Chiang Mai. After that, you must take a bus to Chiang Rai. For you who don’t have much time, it’s better to use the airplane from Bangkok to Chiang Rai.

 

7. Railay


Railay, also known as Rai Leh, is located in Krabi Province, Thailand. This place is famous for its beaches and the cliffs. Rock climbers from all over the world come here to climb and enjoy the beautiful beaches. Some outdoor activities that you can do here are diving, snorkeling, kayaking, trekking, and climbing. During your holiday, you can stay at bungalow resorts which are available on this island. There are four main areas of Railay (Phra Nang, West Railay, East Railay, and Ton Sai). Because Railay is surrounded by ocean and high limestone, the best way to go Railay is by boat.

 

8. Phanom Rung


Phanom Rung is a temple complex, aged over a thousand years. It was built by the Khmer culture between the 10th and 13th century in the top of an extinct volcano. There are 3 Naga bridges along the way to the main monument. Since it’s located on top of a hill, tourists have to take the stairs, but it isn’t hard to climb. This place also offers amazing sunrise and sunset moments. Make sure you have time to visit this place and enjoy both the historical temple and sunrise or sunset. To reach this place, you can take bus or car.

 

9. Pai


Also located in  northern Thailand, Pai is a region which is worth visiting. It offers the beauty of nature such as mountains, waterfalls, river, hot springs and farm fields. For mountain lovers, you can do trekking or visiting hills because Pai’s location is in the foothills of the mountains. That’s why tourist and backpackers love to spend their holiday here, to relax  and enjoy the nature.

 

10. Chiang Mai


Located in northern Thailand, Chiang Mai is a city where you can find the culture and historical place of Thailand. The famous places in this city are the temples (Wat Prathat Doi Suthep and Wat Chedi Luang), Elephant Nature Park, Tiger Kingdom, Huay Tung Tao, etc. You can also shop at the Night Bazaar or buy street food at the Sunday Walking Street and Chiang Mai Gate Market. Chiang Mai is one of the cities in Thailand that offers a relaxing atmosphere and makes tourists and backpackers return again and again. Some of them also decided to stay for weeks and years.
