1. Hortobagy National Park
Located in eastern Hungary, Hortobagy National Park was established in 1973 as Hungary’s first national park. It is also the largest protected area in Hungary and the largest semi-natural grassland in Europe. This national park is formed by natural habitats, alkaline grasslands, meadows, marshes, and fishponds. The marshes and fishponds are a bird nesting habitat. If you visit this place in October, you can see ten of thousands of cranes fly above the grasslands to their overnight roosting places. There are inns located 10-12 km apart along the commercial roads crossing the plains. Tourists could rest and taste the excellent herdsmen’s dishes in there. For exploring the national park, there are bike rental and cart rides that are offered inside the area.
Heviz is famous for its thermal lake, named Lake Heviz. Known as the world’s second-largest thermal lake, the temperature of the lake is affected by the combination of hot and cold spring waters.
